((BigGunner81 Live!)) 9-1-15 Talking with The Yankee Marshall & Pete from The Range at 355

On this weeks ((BigGunner81 Live)) we talked with David Atkinson aka The Yankee Marshall & Pete from The Range at 355.  And Of course Patrick from 1 Shot Kill It Media and Jake from MGS Firearms were with us to aid in discussion.  Discussing self defense with firearms, concealed carry, the new range, and Patrick’s new video response to the #WhateverItTakes.  Check it out below!

Meeting Steve from Devil Dog Arms

I was down at the construction site for the Range at 355, and happened to run into Steve from Devil Dog Arms.  It was very cool to finally get a chance to meet him.  On top of that I was able to take a look at and handle their demo rifles he had on site.  Seen here is the Girls Guide to Guns AR15 in custom Tiffany blue.   It’s very neat to see a rifle customized for a female shooter that is something a little different then the typical pink camo.  Not to mention a high quality rifle at that.  I can truly say the quality is excellent, their free floating hand guards fit well and have a great feel without the sharp edges similar to a cheese grater.  My friends over at MGSFirearms recently performed a test review on one of their Devil Dog rifles.  Where they did things most people in the civilian world would never do, such as throwing the rifle, filling it with dirt, beating it, ect.  And in the end even with a broken grip, and damaged stock the rifle runs like a champ.  I can’t wait for the video to be released that the MGS crew and Patrick from 1 Shot Kill It Media LLC created.

((BigGunner81 LIVE!)) 8-25-15 Guest OverLoad!!! Jacob Herman, Jesse Tischauser, Jon Patton, Jimmy Labita

So being new to the Google On Air Hangouts & Live chats in general I’m finding out there is a learning curve.  One of the things I’ve learned is that often guests who commit to a show will have life events pop up last minute.  I get it we all have things going on.  However that brings up the challenge of who will be actually be on the show that evening.   So often we don’t know far enough in advance to create a title for the show or be able to promote the show properly for the week.  So often we invite multiple guests with the understanding it’s possible none will show.  Well this weeks show was the opposite, we had an abundance of guests.  Good or Bad I’ll let you the viewers decide on that.  Some of the feedback I’ve received thus far is that there were enough guests for 5 shows.  Yes probably right…  Either way it was a good time, and several of our guests will be working on projects together in the future that were linked up during the show.  In my opinion that is one point in favor of a successful show.  After all the goal of the show, is to have fun maybe help someone learn something new, learn something myself, and build relationships within the firearm industry and “Gun Community” for lack of a different term.  I hope you enjoy the show!

July 2015 Got Ammo LLC 3-Gun Series Match

Just giving a short update from this past weekends Got Ammo LLC 3 Gun Match @ Aurora Sportsmen’s Club.  I had a blast, got a little sun burned and it was HOT out.  But everyone seemed to have a good time.  The MKA 1919 ran well I had 1 issue which is believe to be a mag problem with the follower sticking near the bottom of the Mag body, but far less issues then the first match when I was still breaking it in.  Overall I didn’t do horrible but I know I can do better next time around.  Stage 2 was a lot of fun the breaching stage which you can see in my video.  I love knocking down barrels, though not a big fan of crawling through tunnels it added to the challenge.  Stage 4 I believe the A.S.S.(Action Shooting Sports) Wagon stage as we call it I didn’t get on video but was a pretty decent / smooth run for me.  I finished out at 38th place out of 66+ competitors, and last in the unlimited division I believe (not many ran in unlimited I was probably 1 of 3 or 4).  But who cares 3 Gun is a blast pardon the pun….

Chicago Army Navy Surplus Co. Closing

Recently I found out that Chicago Army Navy Surplus Co. was closing it’s doors after nearly 3 Decades in the business.  Bob, the owner of the surplus shop has been a good friend of mine for over 15 years.  This time comes for all of us, the changing of the seasons.  Bob is ready to transition into retirement.  This is a bitter sweet moment, really it’s sad to see an establishment that has been a big part of the community for this long disappear.  When I was kid I was a big G.I. Joe fan, my first pair of dog tags my parents bought me came from Chicago Army Navy Surplus.  This was years before Bob befriended me, this was when the shop was still located in Westchester in fact.  The nostalgia and comradery, will be missed by many.  Today when I stopped in the shop during it’s last weekend of being open I saw many people coming in to say their farewells.  Many thank yous were heard, for the support of various organizations, providing great customer service ect.  And of course many were taking a moment for a quick picture for the memory.  While I was there my buddy took a quick pic for me as well.  I also picked up a few items and a couple mementos, including the slightly faded Gadsden flag that hung in the window and the complaint department plaque with the dummy grenade that sat in the display case for years.

–Thank you, Guys!

TorkMag Introduces a 50rd Magazine for Your AR-15

Hey Gunners, I wanted to to take a minute to let you know about a new product I will be reviewing soon.  It’s a 50rd Mag from a new company called TorkMag.  One of the issues many people run into with larger magazines (larger then 30rd anyway) is that they tend to jam.  Well the only type of jam I like to have is with my peanut butter.  So TorkMag actually came up with a really cool design to help remedy this.  Their 50rd mag uses 2 springs, one is the traditional style coil spring desing we find in most of our magazines, and the other is a spooled style spring that unrolls when the mag is loaded and rolls back up as the rounds are released.  In my opinion this is a very creative solution of keeping even pressure and even travel of your magazine follower.  I can’t wait to test it out at the range, who knows maybe I will throw on my bumpfire stock and practice a little rapid fire…  So stay tuned…
